Crawlspace Drainage System

Does your crawlspace need a drainage system?

Why do we need a crawlspace drainage system?

When surface and ground water enters a crawlspace, it enters around the entire perimeter of the crawl. The water will then flood around the perimeter until it reaches the sump pump. During this process, the ground floor of the crawlspace is saturated with water, and may stay there for weeks until it evaporates into the home. Water in some areas has to rise about two to six inches before it will ever reach the pump. Water must be intercepted before it surfaces above ground level.

In a wet crawlspace, a standalone Sump pit and Pump system cannot adequately remove all of the standing water around the perimeter of the crawlspace. A perimeter drainage system is needed to facilitate this standing water to the sump pump.

Our DrainRite Crawlspace Drainage System

Crawlspace Drainage SystemOur DrainRite Crawl Space Drainage Systems are designed to specifically facilitate excess ground water to our GoldSump Pump System. Our system is installed by hand digging a trench around the entire perimeter of the crawlspace. Some crawlspaces will require only a few walls of trenching but most will need a full perimeter system. Upon completing the trenching a 4″ perforated corrugated pipe is installed in the trench. Some finer or sandy soils will require a filtration sock be wrapped around the pipe.

Crawlspace Drainage SystemThe pipe is then encased by an appropriate aggregrate backfill to prevent any future clogging. This rock backfill works as a filter from sand and finer soils from clogging the pipe. The drain tile is then attached to the sump pit to channel all of the perimeter water to the pump. At our GoldSump Pump System, the water is discharged in to the naturally draining areas of the yard through an 1 1/2″ PVC discharge pipe. The water then spills into the bubbler well cavity and out into the yard.
